A little more about author Debi Evans
Originally from Surrey and attained a BA(Hons) degree in Combined Arts at Leicester University, I spent 20 years living in Dubai and enjoyed all that expat life had to offer, bringing up three children in the UAE.
Currently living in Marlborough, Wiltshire and embracing the vibrant community and beautiful countryside I find on my doorstep. After such a long exile in the desert clime, I am overwhelmed by the beauty of nature and the Big Outdoors.
My children are all but grown up now, and so I rescued a Jack Russell from Dog’s Trust as the ‘fourth child’ some three years ago and he is the inspiration for The Secret Adventures of Rolo.
I have for many years represented Child’s Play educational books and promoted them by means of storytelling. Since writing my own books I have spent the past ten years visiting primary schools in the UK, Middle East, China and Indonesia, inspiring children to embark upon their own creative writing using the idea of dragons hiding in dragon shaped objects.
I confess to enjoying the face to face empowering of young minds in the classroom more than the physical act of writing! The beauty of writing fantasy adventure is that one’s imagination knows no bounds and this is what I try to get across to the children I meet.
I also enjoy conducting creative writing workshops with Key Stage 2 children, hoping to unlock their imagination and share a few writing tips. The smallest observation can set a lively imagination on a fantasy adventure which knows no bounds!
New for 2017: I am an approved speaker on the Wiltshire and Berkshire WI circuit and willing to travel further afield to talk about my inspiration to write books.
'I am writing to thank you for visiting Little Somerford WI on Thursday evening and giving us such an enjoyable talk about your children's books. Members were so impressed with the variety of sources of inspiration you used and how you weave them into lovely stories. You gave us a lively presentation that was a pleasure to listen to, thank you'.
